Ukrainians tried to illegally transport from Ukraine to Poland 103 kg of amber in the amount of more than $51,000. This is the largest amber smuggling recorded on the Polish border this year. Two violators were detained by Polish border guards and handed over to colleagues from Ukraine on Friday, the Polish Border Guard reported.
In addition, 4,000 packs of cigarettes of Ukrainian excise stamps worth more than $15 thousand were seized during the detention. The smuggled goods wrapped in foil, the attackers were going to deliver to Poland through the Western Bug River.
If the attempt to transport amber illegally became a record, then the biggest cigarette smuggling that Polish border guards managed to stop in 2019 included cigarettes worth more than $52,000.
As we reported, Verkhovna Rada supported bill #2240 as the basis. It provides the legalization of the amber mining and bans the export of unprocessed amber until the beginning of 2021.
