The Ukrainians without foreign passports are not allowed to cross the Ukrainian-Russian border. Up to 15 people were banned from crossing the border as Ukrayinska Pravda reported citing Spokesperson of the Border Guard Service Andriy Demchenko.
“Almost 7,000 citizens of Ukraine went to Russian during the past 24 hours and only 15 came to the border with internal passports. They were refused in the crossing of the border. We see no general discontent of people about the orders of the travel,” Demchenko said.
He said that as far as he knows, even people, who were not allowed to cross the border, did not express dissatisfaction. Particularly, one person said: “then it was meant to be: I cannot cross the border today but I will process a document and then will travel”.
Besides, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine explained that the нововведение accelerate the procession of the citizens at the state border as earlier the border guards had to put the data of internal passports and birth certificates manually. The foreign passports are machine-readable.
The change of the rules of the crossing of the border is the element of the security because it is easier to forge the birth certificate and internal passport of the citizen of Ukraine than the foreign passport.
Concerning the statistics of the recent years, Demchenko noted that the relations between the countries significantly influenced it, especially the aggression of Russia against Ukraine.
In 2013, 6.2 million crossings of the borders with Russia were spotted, including flights, which operated that time. In 2018, this number made 4.1. million of crossings, in 2019 – 3.9 million.
As we reported, from March 1, the border crossing with the Russian Federation will be carried out on the basis of a foreign passport, but only for Ukrainians who travel from Ukraine to the territory of the Russian Federation.
