Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Finland contacted the group of Ukrainians, whose disappearance the media reported earlier. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative told this, as Ukrainska Pravda informs.
“There is basis to think that the previous assumption of the Ukrainian Embassy in Finland on the Ukrainian citizens was right: the afore-mentioned group of individuals, 20 people, found other employment, and 17 more decided to return to Ukraine.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Finland Andryi Olefirov told 112.UA Channel about his conversation with the Ukrainians.
“I talked to the people from this group just a few minutes ago, they sent me photo. They are smiling, and they are fine. Maybe, it was because of the information. They are a little frightened,” he said and added, that talked to some of their parents.
“I have confirmation that people who talked to me, are from different regions of Ukraine. Some of them returned to Ukraine, others are having a rest and planning to return soon,” the diplomat noted.
As it was reported earlier, 40 foreign berry pickers disappeared in Tuupovaara, Joensuu city, Finland. 37 Ukrainians and three Estonians were in the group. People made for North Karelia but were denied work and were left without house and means of subsistence. The locals settled the workers in a hunting lodge, and helped them with food and clothes but the workers disappeared in the beginning of August.
