Petro Benyuk, the famous Ukrainian cinema and theatre actor died in Lviv, western Ukraine on April 9. The press office of the National Ukrainian Academic Theatre named after Mariya Zankovetska reported that on Facebook.

'It's difficult to write these words, but... Petro Benyuk, the prominent actor of TV and theatre, the People's Artist of Ukraine, passed away today. he devoted all his life to acting. The army of his fans never left their hero behind. The halls were crowded with the audience during his shows, and they cried and laughed along with him! His talent was a true decoration of the National Theatre named after Mariya Zankovetska... We're in sorrow...', reads the message.

Brother of another prominent actor Bohdan Benyuk, Petro Benyuk played dozens of parts in both comedy and drama. Born in 1946 in Bytkiv village, western Ukraine, he studied at Kyiv State University of Theatre Art named after Ivan Karpenko-Kary. In 1996, he was awarded with the title of the People's Artist of Ukraine. He was also a holder of the 3rd class Order for Merits.
