The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the draft law on increase of Ukrainian language quota in mass media. 244 MPs voted for the bill.
The only political force who refused to support the bill is the Opposition Bloc – they called the initiative to come “ahead of schedule”.
Refat Chubarov, the MP from Petro Poroshenko Bloc and a member of the committee on national minorities spoke of the norms to protect Crimean Tatar language as well.
“As the draft law under consideration to be voted in the first reading, I call the committee to create the working group today and specify the norms to render impossible destruction of the language or the reduction of its share in mass media,” said Chubarov.
