Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian Parliament has passed the bill, which toughened administrative punishment for driving while experiencing alcoholic or psychoactive intoxication. The restrictions also concern situations when the driver refuses to undergo express examination.
Driving a vehicle while having alcoholic or psychoactive intoxication or the refusal to be examined results in a fine (USD 607), with suspension from driving for one year.
If any such violation is allowed within one year, the sum of the fine will double. Besides, the driver will be suspended for three years, and the vehicle can be confiscated for three years.
If the violation occurs twice within one year, the original sum of the fine will triple. The driver may be arrested for 15 days, with confiscation of the vehicle.
