Ukrainian official sold more than 500 kilograms of radioactive scrap metal, dealing damage to the state treasury in the amount of UAH 3,000,000 (USD 107,000).
"Pre-trial investigation has found that on August 23, 2019, and official who did not get the necessary license of the State Inspection of Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine, sold more than 510 kilograms of contaminated scrap metal for the sum of 51,000 hryvnyas. According to the conclusion of the expertise, these objects are materials contaminated by radioactivity, and their market value makes more than UAH 3,269,000", State Bureau of Investigations reported.
The official lacked sanitary passports for conduction such activity.
The State Bureau of Investigations suspects a chairman of one of the state agencies of Ukraine. The man is suspected of illegal trade of radioactive materials, which is a crime, according to Part 3 of Article 265 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.
