Ukrainian military hit militants’ drone in Luhansk region

Combat helicopter was involved to destroy the unmanned aerial vehicle

Ukrainian military hit the drone of the militants above Lysychansk, Luhansk region. The press office of the Joint Forces Operation reported this on Facebook.  

‘At 8:09 a.m., a target was detected by radio-technical facilities, initially identified as an unmanned aerial vehicle “Orlan-10”, which is in service with the armed forces of the Russian Federation. The target was maneuvering, performing obviously reconnaissance flight from Lysychansk to Sievierodonetsk. Duty air defense forces were put on alert right away. Commander of the Joint Forces Lieutenant-General Serhiy Nayev adopted a decision to involve Mil Mi-24 attack helicopter to destroy the target,’ reads the message.

It is claimed that at 8:45, the helicopter crew received a command “Good to go!”, and took off to intercept the aerial target.

‘Having identified the target, the helicopter crew started pursuing it. The Russian drone intensively maneuvered in height and often changed course, but that did not save him. With accurate fire “Orlan-10" of the Russian occupation forces was hit in the area of Borivske settlement. Yet at 10:10 a.m., the ground forces of the Joint Forces found the wreckage,' the press office of the JFO added.

Reportedly, on October 12, the Police Department in Lysychansk city received a message from local residents that heard an explosion in the area of the park. Also, they claimed that something has fallen on the park near the school. The operational investigation group and explosive experts arrived at the scene. The territory was cordoned off, 682 children and teachers were evacuated from the school. 

Later, Vitalii Krylov, Speaker of operations command “Zakhid” claimed in the commentary to 112 Ukraine that Ukrainian military spotted the enemy’s two unmanned aerial vehicles in the area of the inter-entity boundary line; air defense systems were used.

‘One of the drones was hit at an altitude of two kilometers. What people heard and saw was the wreckage of the shell used by the air defense forces. Fortunately, as a result of the wreckage fall no one got hurt,’ a reporter quotes the words of the military. 

At the same time, volunteer Roman Donik published this information on his Facebook page. In particular, the unmanned aerial vehicles were detected above the location of the 53rd brigade. Anticipated that both drones manufactured in Russia.

‘The air defense systems were operatively used and the drones were destroyed in the air,’ Donik said. 

Commissioner of the Ukrainian Parliament for Human Rights Lyudmyla Denisova urged the Police, SBU and other institutions to establish the reason for today’s incident.
