The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine claimed that the cause of the accident at the Rivneazot nitrogen plant may be the inconsistency between the pipeline material and the stated characteristics of the manufacturer. This was announced by Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrsky during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
"Preliminary reason is a non-compliance of the pipeline material with the stated characteristics of the manufacturer, as well as corrosion of the pipeline section. The final conclusion will be made by the commission, which is now at the enterprise," Monastyrsky said.
According to him, Rivneazot has been operating since 1969 and since then there has been no overhaul with the replacement of the pipeline.
Monastyrsky also pointed that criminal proceedings had been instituted due to violation of safety rules at explosive enterprise.
As it was reported earlier, on July 20, there was an explosion at Rivneazot, the nitrogen plant in Rivne city. An orange cloud covered the city. No one was injured in the blast. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, no chemically dangerous substances were detected in the air as a result of the accident.
