Ukrainian Cultural Fund, subordinate to the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Digital Transformation plan to work together on the creation of an electronic library. The Minister of Culture Volodymyr Borodyansky said that on the air of Radio Liberty.
"People should read more, they should have a habit of reading. The habit of reading is being formed at school, in the family, in childhood. Therefore, our actions and efforts will be made together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine aimed at making such a habit appear in school time. That's the first one. And the second is the presence of content, that is, the presence of interesting books," Borodyansky says.
He added that the government is considering the option of e-books to create a ''minimum barrier'' to access literature to ensure availability.
At the same time, according to the Minister, there is ''a big number of libraries'' in Ukraine — about 15,500, and he believes that they should be transformed.
''The library has to change. It should turn into a modern hub, a modern place, with books and access to the Internet. Therefore, I believe that we need to soberly see how many libraries we can actually maintain. Second. We have to explain local authorities why they do need a library, how a library can change the place where it is located, how it can affect the society, the community'', he said.
