Ukrainian public holidays are celebrated both inside the country and abroad. The 112.UA Channel contacted Ukrainian scientific expedition at the Vernadsky Research Base in Antarctica. The representatives of the expedition solemnly raised the national flag of Ukraine on Galindez Island, Antarctica.
The Vernadsky Research Base is a Ukrainian Antarctic Station at Marina Point on Galindez Island in the Argentine Islands, Antarctica. It is named after Soviet and Ukrainian mineralogist Vladimir Vernadsky (1863–1945). At the moment, the 22nd scientific expedition is present at the station, staffed by 12 people. The scientists came to the research base in April, and are to conduct geological, geophysical, biomedical and hydrometeorological research for a year. Just as the Ukrainians all other the world, today they are celebrating the National Flag day.
