Ukrainian film “Donbass” fails to make it to Oscar shortlist

Ukrainian military tragicomedy “Donbass” directed by Serhiy Loznytsia did not enter the shortlist of films that are to compete for Oscar in the Foreign Language Film category. The list that consisted of nine nominees was published by the Cinema Academy on its website.

The contestants are listed as follows:

  • Colombia, “Birds of Passage”
  • Denmark, “The Guilty”
  • Germany, “Never Look Away”
  • Japan, “Shoplifters”
  • Kazakhstan, “Ayka”
  • Lebanon, “Capernaum”
  • Mexico, “Roma”
  • Poland, “Cold War”
  • South Korea, “Burning”

The final list of the nominees for Oscar award will be announced on January 22, 2019. The ceremony of the most prestigious award in the film industry will take place on February 24.

Earlier, Ukrainian film “Volcano” won the main prize of the 23rd edition of International Cinema Festival in Rabat, Morocco.
