Ukrainian consul met with the journalist Roman Sushchenko in Lefortovo prison in Moscow on Monday. This was announced by Michayil Chaplyga, the Representative of the Ukrainian Ombudsman Valeria Lutkovska.
"According to our information, Ukrainian consul met with Roman Sushchenko", he said on Monday evening, indicating that these data was obtained from the office of the Russian Ombudsman Tatiana Moskalkova.
Chaplyga commented the information about the visit of Consul to Sushchenko on the air at 112 Ukraine TV Channel.
"We received a report that there has been held personal communication between Sushchenko and our consul. They were given only two hours, but the meeting time lasted three hours", he said.
Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko, who works for Ukrinform news agency, was found in pre-trial detention facility of Lefortovo prison (Moscow). Open Russia, the group of Russian human rights activists, reported this at their official website on Sunday night.
According to Sushchenko, the law enforcers put psychological pressure on him; they didn’t let him call home and tell the wife he was arrested. The FSB, Russian federal security service, provided Sushchenko with a lawyer.
Sushchenko asked the human rights watchers to contact with Ukrainian consul in Moscow. The diplomat already confirmed officially that the reporter was arrested in Russia.
