The first All-Ukrainian competition of composers Ukrainian Concert Overture dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence has started. The Charitable Foundation Music City Open and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine invite composers to take part in the creation of a new musical symbol of the country.
Most often, solemn events in Ukraine begin with an overture to the opera Taras Bulba by Mykola Lysenko, created in 1890. The overture became famous in 1955, in its third edition. During all the years of independence there have been many attempts to write a new concert overture, but so far no piece of music has gained such status and popularity.
The competition is an opportunity for composers to create a new, bright and modern chapter in the National Music History. All interested composers who are citizens of Ukraine are invited to participate, regardless of their age, status and place of residence.
The purpose of the competition is not only to create a new modern overture, but also to support Ukrainian composers, as well as the impetus for the realization of their potential. The prize fund is over $ 7,000 (3,500 - first place, 2,600 - second place, 1,700 - third place). But the main reward for the best authors will be that their work will be performed and recorded by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, a two-time Grammy nominee, under the direction of People's Artist Volodymyr Sirenko.
As we reported earlier, a military parade on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day will take place in Kyiv next year.
