Shchedryk, the children’s choir from Kyiv is considered the world’s best; the recognition came, as the team from Ukraine triumphed at the festival of orchestra and choir groups in Florence.
Shchedryk came first, beating another eleven contestants. Maryana Sablina, the chief conductor of the choir, also won the best conductor trophy at this event.
On July 23, the choir performed at Veszprem cathedral in Hungary, celebrating the 1030th anniversary of the Christianization of Kyiv Rus.
Last year, the Ukrainian choir celebrated its 45th anniversary.
Last month, students of the Exemplary children's chorus ‘Gloria’ from Zhytomyr won the 45th international song festival in the Czech city of Olomouc. It i 60 children from the age of nine to sixteen sing in Gloria chorus. But only 31 vocalists went to the contest in the Czech Republic this time. However, this did not prevent the performers from Zhytomyr from becoming triumphant, having performed a complex program of four pieces.
During half a year ‘Gloria’ chorus won five gold medals and two Grand Prix competitions of various levels.
In addition, after winning the festival in the Czech Republic, the choir also successfully performed in France.
