A Ukrainian Army Colonel was busted with extortion and bribe-taking. The incident took place in Khmelnytsky region, central Ukraine, the press service of the Western Region's Military Prosecutor's Office says.
The senior officer of the Moral and Psychological Support Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces demanded money from a serviceman who served under the contract.
'The 5,000 U.S. dollars were supposed to ensure the influence while making the decision by the General Staff of the Armed Forces about including the serviceman to the UN peacekeeping forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo', reads the message.
The Colonel was detained in flagranti, as the deal took place. He faces from three to eight years in prison with property confiscation.
The internal investigation is underway.
