Ihor Zhdanov, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine urged the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine to boycott the stage of 2017-2018 Biathlon World Cup in Russian city Tyumen. He reported this on Facebook.
‘The Biathlon Federations of the US, Canada and the Czech Republic claimed about the boycott of the stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Tyumen, Russia. I am sure that out biathlon community should participate in this campaign. It is a position of the minister and a citizen – I stand for the boycott. Russia is a country-aggressor that occupied part of our territory. Russia is a state where the doping is one of the elements of the national sports policy’, Zhdanov noted.
The minister expects that the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine will heed his position.
‘Also, I would like to inform that we appeal to all international federations with the appeal to no assign the international sports competitions at the territory of the country-aggressor and worst offender of the World Anti-Doping Code’, the message said.
Earlier the information appeared on March 11, 2018, that the National Team of Ukraine in biathlon will not boycott the final state of the Biathlon World Cup in Tyumen, Russia that will take place in March.
