The SBU (State Service of Ukraine) detected and ceased illegal activity of a criminal group. The malefactors assisted the work of fake cell phone operators in occupied Donbas, Feniks and Lugacom. Press office of the SBU reported that on July 6.

Cyber security specialists of the SBU detected that the malefactors used software and hardware to change the number of telephone users, posing the international phone traffic from occupied Donbas and Russia as phone conversations between Ukrainian users.

The organizers of this illegal business are residents of Zhytomyr and Kyiv. During searches, law enforcers detected documents, computers, digital devices and almost 17,000 user feature packages of Ukraine's mobile network operators.

According to the expert, such activity harms Ukraine's image as a reliable international partner in terms of handling communications. A criminal case is underway. The culprits face from three to six years behind the bars.
