Ukrainian Parliament Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy recommended the National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine to completely stick to the Ukrainian law in the consideration of the extension of the broadcasting license of 112 Ukraine TV Channel.
Today's session of the committee took place with the representatives of 112 Ukraine and Head of the National Council Yuriy Artemenko, so the MPs listened to both sides.
"To give assessment to the member of the National Council and its Head Yuriy Artemenko, who claimed before the submission of all documents to the regulator on the extension of the license, he claimed and announced the decision of the collegial body," lawyer of 112 Ukraine Vasyl Smetana appealed to the members of the committee. He also reminded that according to the law on the National Council, one of its members cannot assume all authorities of the body.
"We think that such behavior is unacceptable", he noted.
Moreover, according to 112 Ukraine, Yuriy Artemenko does not correspond to the qualification requirements for the member of the National Council as he does not have enough work experience in the sphere of TV and Radio broadcasting.
In his turn, Artemenko belies all accusation of the TV Channel and he is sure that the conflict is not political.
"There is no fight of Artemenko, Feshchuk, the National Council on 112 Ukraine issue. There is a right of the regional channels to fight for their right. Neither the National Council, community nor I have a policy in the 112 Ukraine issue."
Listened to both sides, the Parliament Committee recommended to the National Council as an independent body to observe the law during the execution of its authorities.
Earlier 112 Ukraine TV Channel protested against the activity of Yuriy Artemenko, the head of the National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine. The channel's management insists that the official has been conducting the Council's actions in the way that prevents 112 Ukraine TV from broadcasting; previously, he stated that the Council would not issue the license for this medium.
We recall that the National Council refused 112 Ukraine TV Channel in the relocation of the broadcasting concept to the information one for 34 times. On the basis of the formal violation, it imposed the fines and preventions against 112 Ukraine TV Channel. The Ukrainian and international experts treat such actions of the regulator as the pressure on the TV channel and freedom of speech in the country.
