Ukrainian envoy for human rights Lyudmyla Denisova called on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to adopt the bill on making the amendments to the valid law of Ukraine on Status and social protection of the citizens, who suffered from the Chornobyl disaster. Ukrainian ombudsman wrote this on her Facebook.
“Today, many Chornobyl liquidators and the relatives of the deceased ones come to me. They arrived from different parts of Ukraine in order to stand for the rights of Chornobyl victims, as well as for the compensation for the worsening of their health condition,” Denisova said.
According to the ombudsman, Head of the social organization, The Union of Chornobyl veterans of Ukraine Volodymyr Proskurin asked her to undertake the actions on eliminating the discrimination and violation of rights of Ukrainian citizens, who are the participants of the liquidation of the Chornobyl disaster and its consequences.
“It is very significant to abide by the law, and the additional costs are not included. We have the working group of abiding by the social and economic rights under Olena Stepanenko’s leadership. She together with the representatives of the social organizations created the bill on making the amendments to the valid law of Ukraine on Status and social protection of the citizens, who suffered from the Chornobyl disaster’’ Denisova stated.
Ukrainian ombudsman pointed out that the bill is already registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
”It is important that the MPs approve the bill until the formulation of the State budget for 2020, and the funds for implementation are provided,” the ombudsman emphasized.
