Oleg Sentsov, the Ukrainian movie maker will get Barbara Goldsmith’s Freedom to Write award. The ceremony will take place in New York on April 25 (1.30 a.m. Kyiv time). Sentsov’s sister Natalya Kaplan will get the prize for him, as Oleg stays in the illegal detention in Russia. Mustafa Nayem, the Ukrainian MP reported that at Facebook late on Tuesday.

‘The ceremony will take place at the American Museum of Natural History. PEN America prize will be awarded to his sister Natalya Kaplan. Oleg is now thousands of kilometers away from Manhattan – at the penitentiary facility in Yakutsk city; and his relatives, lawyers and human rights watchers find it difficult to get there. The Russian authorities call him a Russian citizen – in breach of all legal norms, and in spite of that, during the ceremony in New York he will be presented as Ukrainian movie maker,’ Nayem wrote.

According to the MP, Sentsov’s letter that he wrote on this occasion will be read aloud during the ceremony.
