Marta Kostyuk, the Ukrainian tennis player performed in the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Abu Dhabi. She stood against Russia's Veronika Kudermetova.
Previously, in the quarterfinal, Kudermetova defeated Kostyuk's compatriot Elina Svitolina. Kostyuk, on the other hand, faced Sara Sorribes Tormo from Spain. The Spaniard was the one who got the first set on her record. Nevertheless, Kostyuk pulled herself together, won the second set, and eventually snatched the victory from her opponent.
As Kostyuk reached the first semifinal of a WTA event in her career, she could have avenged the loss of Svitolina. However, all she managed to do was put up a good fight. Eventually, Kostyuk lost in two sets.
The Russian will proceed to the final of the WTA tournament in Abu Dhabi. She is to face Belarusian Arina Sobolenko. Kostyuk, on her part, will rise to the 78th place in the WTA ranking, which is her personal best so far.
