The Ukrainian embassy in Egypt told about the condition of the 12-year-old boy and his mother, who were attacked by a shark near Sharm el-Sheikh on October 25. This was reported on the embassy's Facebook page.
"The mother received deep wounds from predator bites. The child suffered more serious injuries: his upper limb was amputated below the elbow, he has deep wounds on his back. Today the mother has been transferred to a hospital. The child is still in intensive care, she is getting a surgical assist,” reads the message.
As we reported earlier, the family bought a tour from third parties.
“According to the information provided by the host country, tourists have purchased the service of scuba diving from excursion yachts from third parties (not from the tour operator or its partners). According to open sources, starting from November 1, 2019, such services are prohibited in the resorts of Sinai to preserve the underwater ecosystem,” the statement said.
Ukraine’s State Agency for Tourism Development notes that this is not the first time that, despite warnings from tour operators and bans, tourists buy extreme tours from locals outside the hotel.
