Oksana Syroyid, the deputy speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, went on hunger strike, following Oleh Bereziuk, the Chair of the Parliamentary faction Samopomich Union. She announced that during the morning session of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday.
“Lviv is just an example of the resistance to the lies and your outrage. A small example. I want to support Oleh Bereziuk and join him today. I’ll be together with him, I’ll starve together with him in order to try to protect people from the outrage. This is my action, my human choice. My advice that the Lviv citizens apply to the President with a requirement to fire the head of the Lviv regional administration for issuing and carrying out the illegal orders, humiliating dignity of Lviv residents,” Syroid announced from a rostrum.
As it was reported earlier, Oleh Bereziuk went on a hunger strike on Mmonday, June 19. This day, Lviv authorities again requesasted the Cabinet of Ministers and the President of Ukraine to introduce the emergency state due to the garbage problems in the city.
Lviv is suffering from the trash blockade. Every day the city produces about 600 tons of waste, but there is no place to export them. More than a third of the urns are overcrowded. After the fire at trash dump near Grybovychi village (near Lviv) in last year, the city was forced to take out the garbage to other landfills, which eventually refused to accept the waste.
The Lviv city state administration fails to move the garbage out of the city in good time; since summer 2016, it became even more complicated, due to the large fire at a waste deposit in Hrybovychi village, lying close to Lviv. That badly complicated things, as the garbage keeps piling up and there is not much place to move it to.
