The Consulate General of Ukraine in Istanbul has already contacted the Turkish law enforcement agencies to verify this information as Interfax-Ukraine reported citing Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Oleh Nikolenko.

“We see information in the media about the detention in Istanbul of a group of people, among whom there may be a citizen of Ukraine. The Turkish side has not yet informed the Ukrainian diplomatic institutions in Turkey about the fact of the detention. There were no complaints from relatives either," he said.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that on behalf of the department, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Istanbul has already turned to the law enforcement agencies of Turkey to verify this information, find out the whereabouts of the Ukrainian citizen and the details of the case, and obtain permission to visit him by the consul.

As we reported, six people have been detained in Turkey on charges of "political and military espionage". Citizens of Russia, Uzbekistan and one Ukrainian are among those involved.
