Ukrainian air force officer Mykhailo Leshchenko received a prestigious UK military award, the Honorary Sabre, from the hands of the British defense minister Michael Fallon.
The awards ceremony took place on Friday, January 20, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported.
‘The Honorary Sabre of the Royal Air Force College Cranwell is being awarded annually to a foreign cadet who reached extraordinary achievements in leadership and training disciplines, and also showed officer’s best qualities during the basic training course for Royal Air Force officers’, the statement says.
Mykhailo Leshchenko began the training course in January 2015 and graduated in September 2015. ‘Over the course, Mykhailo proved his best, merged with the rest of the group of cadets and showed a beautiful understanding of British sense of humor. His natural behavior of the leader, combined with nice bearing of a soldier, allowed him to demonstrate these achievements. He became an example for other foreign cadets; he’s always been in good shape. His activity outside the class also brought him compliments from the military academy’s leadership’, said the Military Attaché of the British Embassy in Ukraine Karen McTear.
