As Ukraine's and the U.S. Air Forces develop and deepen their cooperation level, servicemen who operate the Ukrainian AA defense system will try beating an American drone - within a simulation drill that is to take place during the joint Ukrainian-American exercises in Western Ukraine. Ukraine's Air Force Command reported that on Facebook.
It's the first time that the MQ-9 Reaper, the U.S.-made UAV will try to surpass the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense lines in this area.
The said exercises are an extremely important element of cooperation between the U.S. Air Force in Europe and the command of the AA defense of Ukraine's Air Force.
"It's a good opportunity to get the huge experience shared by our American friends, and some material and technical support. The goal of this event is to exchange experience in anti-aircraft defense practice. That, specifically, includes tracking, locking on and simulated destruction of MQ-9 Reaper UAV", said Major General Dmytro Karpenko, the Temporary Acting Commander of West Air Force Command.
Kevin O'Brien, a member of the delegation of the USAF in Europe added that the event will help Ukrainian ground units improve their cooperation with the Air Force command when jointly deflecting a possible attack from the air. "I've been cooperating with Ukraine's Air Force all the time, but it's the first time when I work with the AA defense representatives. Colonel-General Serhiy Drozdov, the Air Force Commander-in-Chief insisted that it was one of his priority goals, and it's crucial for us to cooperate with you. Bilateral education contributes to the success of joint Ukrainian-American practice sessions as their AA defense forces cooperate during the Clear Sky drill series", he said.
