The State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine has launched an environmental campaign "Christmas tree - 2021", during which the inspectorate, law enforcement bodies, and local governments will strengthen control over the legal sale of Christmas trees. This was announced by the head of the Inspectorate Andrii Malovanyi on his Facebook page.

"To counteract illegal logging, territorial divisions of the State environmental inspectorate together with local governments and law enforcement agencies are strengthening control over compliance with environmental legislation to protect forest plantations and are initiating an environmental campaign – ’Christmas tree – 2021’,” the statement said.

Thus, regional state administrations should warn forest enterprises about their strict compliance with legal requirements regarding forest protection and measures to combat deforestation, and the police will strengthen measures to control the places of trade and storage of coniferous plantations.

As we reported earlier, UN Environment Program Executive Director Inger Andersen has warned the countries of the Carpathian region of serious threats that are caused by deforestation and climate change.
