The period of preparation for the introduction of an automatic photo-video recording of traffic violations in Ukraine has ended. This was stated by Minister of Interior Affairs Arsen Avakov, Ukrayinska Pravda reported.
For the first 45 days, the cameras would operate in an early-warning and preventive mode. Thereafter, fines and penalties will be introduced, and there will be an increase in the number of cameras across the country.
Such measures are necessary in order to reduce the number of casualties on the roads. According to the Interior Minister, from 38 to 50 people get killed on Ukrainian roads every week.
As we reported earlier, there were 160,000 road accidents in Ukraine in 2019, which took the lives of nearly 4,000 people.
That is why the Ukrainian government plans to upgrade six thousand kilometers of roads.
"The goal is more than 6,000 km of upgraded roads. Record 3,4 billion dollars of attracted funds. And a new management policy. All this will help make a turning point this year," head of State Agency of Automobile Roads Oleksandr Kubakov said.
