Ukraine is going to face another outbreak of Covid-19 incidence. Chief infectionist, honorary doctor Olga Holubovska posted that on Facebook.

According to her, the simultaneous circulation of two pathogens "Delta" and "Omicron", already increases the number of patients and hospitalizations.

"The key feature of the Omicron wave of Covid-19 is that it overlaps the Delta variant that has not passed yet completely; that is, these two pathogens are now circulating simultaneously, causing the increase of incidence rate and hospitalization rate", Holubovska said.

The doctor added that past variants of the virus usually completely superseded previous variants, and it was possible to observe a drop in the incidence of the disease to literally single cases (January-February and August-September 2021), which were followed by a flare-up.

"The accumulation of the virus in the population is underway; however, most of wthat population's members are already immune. Based on the patterns of the epidemiological process, once the pathogen adapts to the new conditions, we will see an extremely sharp rise in the incidence of disease, as it happens in other countries," Holubovska reported.

She added that this variant has been causing less grave forms of the disease and critical cases; less children get sick. But that's typical for population in general.
