This memorandum was signed as part of the Ukrzaliznytsia restructuring plan. It can improve the efficiency and quality of rail transportation in Ukraine.
"After meeting with the leadership of Deutsche Bahn last week in Kyiv, we came to understand the format of cooperation, namely, Ukraine will completely retain control over the Ukrzaliznytsia," Oleksiy Honcharuk stated.
He added that German experts will work on reforming the management mechanisms of the enterprise. They will not lease or sell Ukrzaliznytsia.
As we reported, over the last year, Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine's state-run railway company carried 942,000 passengers to the EU and back to Ukraine. That's 14.9 percent more than the number in 2018.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the strategy for Ukrzaliznytsia for 2019-2023. According to the approved strategy, the company will hold ten key events, including the implementation of reasonable tariffs for 2019-2022, reorganization of the society from the regional structure in business-segments in 2020-2022.
