According to researchers who made the rating, Ukraine's military spending in 2018 reached a mark of $4.8 billion. It is 21% more than in 2017 and 53% more than in 2013, before the conflict in the eastern part of the country.
“The five biggest spenders in 2018 were the United States, China, Saudi Arabia, India, and France, which together accounted for 60 percent of global military spending”, the report said.
According to the report, the world military expenditure is estimated to have been $1822 billion in 2018. It was 2.6 percent higher in real terms than in 2017.
“US military spending rose for the first time in seven years, to $649 billion in 2018. China increased its military expenditure by 5.0 percent and India by 3.1 percent”, the report added.
Russia was the sixth-largest spender with the expenditure of $61.4 billion in 2018 for the first time since 2006.
