Ukraine reduces speed limit in settlements 50 km/h

The government’s order published the order, the changes to come in force on January 1, 2018

The order of the Cabinet of Ministers on the maximum speed limit in the cities from 60 km/h to 50 km/h was published in an official publication Uryadovy Kuryer on November 25. The changes to come into force at the beginning of the next year.

Thus, the drivers will be allowed to drive 50 km/h, the current speed limit is 60 km/h.

“Today the speed limit in the vast majority of EU countries 50 km/h, and 30 km/h in special places. Thus this law allows bringing Ukrainian legislation more in line with that of the European Union,” reads the explanatory note to the order.

As it was reported earlier, Ukrainian government restricted the validity term for the first driver’s licenses to two years.

The changes to the current legislation were introduced by Arsen Avakov, Internal Minister, referring to the high death rate at road accidents(which is four times bigger than the death toll in the combat zone of Eastern Ukraine).

Apart from that, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine intends to agree with France on the possibility of the mutual interchange of driving license when the citizens of both countries will be able to change their national driving license on the license of the country they live in.
