Ukraine came within touching distance of effective reforms in the labor protection system. Within the EU-ILO Project, the draft laws are elaborated that might protect the life and health of the workers all over the country as Obozrevatel reported.
Currently, Ukraine passes the stage of the implementation of already adopted EU directives on labor protection in the Ukrainian legislation.
“We do everything possible: explain the international standards, help to write the draft laws, train for risk assessment. Of course, Ukraine has to do its part of the work now. We see that it is the opportune moment when the critical number of specialists has formed, who understand that the European standard makes sense. It should be implemented,” EU-ILO Project Manager Antonio Santos stated.
The main consequence of the implementation of the European labor protection standards in Ukraine, according to the experts, should become the prevention of the problems at the production, not the damage limitation as it takes place so currently.
“European philosophy shows that the assessment of risks and dangers should aim to manage these processes. In other words, not to accept; firstly, not to accept the risk and it means that it is necessary to refuse from the works and services that carry the threat to life and health of a person. This is it. We have modern European companies that really might serve as a model for us and they do it,” Expert, Chief Editor of Labor Protection magazine Dmytro Matviychuk stated.
The large enterprises of traditionally highly-traumatic of ore mining, oil and gas extraction areas and chemical metallurgy are closest to the European standards of labor protection. According to international experts, the measures of labor safety are implemented in these spheres before the approval of the new standards at the level of the state.
As we reported, in Ukraine, the number of officially registered unemployed people increased by 76% during the quarantine. Currently, the figure makes almost 480,000 citizens.
