Scientists from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine believe that there's a threat of new rapid growth of Covid-19 incidence. A workgroup for mathematic simulation of Covid-related problems came to such conclusion in their latest report released on July 20.
"The available up-to-date epidemic background let us claim that the fall of Covid-19 incidence in Ukraine is over. Currently, the incidence has been growing within the terms of weekly comparison - in spite of the still low level; there's a threat of explosive-fast growth of this incidence, which resembles situation in certain countries as Delta strain spreads there",
The scientists are concerned because the number of positive PCR tests, new hospitalizations and newly registered cases have grown over the last week.
The coronavirus Delta strain is responsible for over 80% of new Covid-19 cases in the United States. This was stated by top U.S. infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci at a hearing in the U.S. Senate on July 20, according to Reuters.
Moreover, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky said during the hearing that an average of 239 people per day have died in the United States over the past week, nearly 48% higher than the previous week.
