Yesterday night Ukrainians gathered at home or in public places to celebrate the upcoming year. The New Year celebration is considered a family holiday for many, with 49% of Ukrainians saying it’s an occasion to spend time with the family, according to one of the polls.

In Ukraine’s capital, the festivities were held on five squares and the biggest one was in Sofiivska square. There, the activities started at 8 pm with the performances of Ukrainian musicians. Thousands of people gathered in Sofiivska square to meet the New Year.

Although the city decided not to use fireworks so long as there’s war in Ukraine, there were some fireworks that people used.

Over 17.000 Ukrainians met the New Year on the trains.
