Ukrainian scientists are proposed to take part in the preparation of the sixth evaluation report on climate change. Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ostap Semerak claimed this in the result of the meeting with Chairman of inter-governmental panel on climate changes (IPCC) Jonathan Lynn as the press service of Ecology Ministry reported.
According to Semerak, earlier the Ukrainian scientists took part in the preparation of the third and fourth IPCC evaluation reports. According to the information, 195 countries will form the political plans towards the further fight against climate changes on the results of this report.
‘We have scientific and expert potential to work with such authoritative organization as IPCC. Particularly, we have the research of the greenhouse gas emission of the last years and its influence on the environment. The government is ready to support this initiative. It is one more possibility for us to confirm the intentions of Ukraine to be among the leading countries and influence the forming of the international climate policy’, Semerak noted.
Ecology Minister also noted that the Ukrainian Hydrometereological Institute along with the ICPP expert groups worked out 15 climate scenarios for Ukraine. According to him, it is important to work out the adaptation programs for new conditions of life.
‘We talk about a new approach to the adaptation to the climate change, how to work and what to do. We approved the Conception of the implementation of the state policy on climate changes. Also, we are at the final stage of the discussion of the Strategy on the carbonic development and Strategy on adaptation to climate changes. We need to activate the scientific potential of Ukraine. We expect on the cooperation with the scientist of the National Science Academy and our international partners’, he summarized.
