The cyber-attack is expected in Ukraine at the Independence Day of Ukraine on August 24. The Chief of the Department of the Cyber Police Sergy Demedyuk claimed this at the interview to Glavkom.

‘We warn that it will be on August 24, at the Independence Day. We see that such attacks tale place before or at some great holidays for Ukraine’, he said explaining when the next attack can take place.

According to him, there were a lot of elements in the dangerous M.E.Doc software that are still not activated.

‘We still do not entirely know what qualities this virus possesses. We have only 1.300 official applications where the criminal proceedings were opened. We should consider that if the hackers destroyed the information channel that is so important for them, then they would leave the backlogs. And these backlogs are really powerful’, he explained.

He noted that only 10% of the state and private enterprises reacted after the last cyber-attack. All other did not implement any measures.

The cyber police added that the guidance notes in the Russian language were found out at the amendments to the virus-carrying code that allow suggesting that the hackers speak Russian.

‘I said only about people who speak Russian language and I did not say about Russia. The main version is the intervention of the Russian special services but I do not confirm this’, Demedyuk said.

He noted that there are many specialists in network administration in Ukraine but there are no specialists in cyber security and rejection of the cyber-threats.

A large-scale cyber attack hit dozens of companies and enterprises across Ukraine on June 27. All of the companies were attacked by the same virus. Cyber protection experts pointed out it is mbr locker 256 malware, a blackmailing virus, demanding from users to send money in exchange for decryption of the encrypted data.
