Today Ukraine is commemorating the 73rd anniversary of expulsion of Nazis from the country.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, WWII veterans, and veterans of the Donbas conflict laid flowers on the Monument to Unknown Soldier, thus commemorating those who perished while liberating the country from the Nazis.

The campaign to liberate Ukraine lasted from January 1943 to October 1944, with the efforts of four Ukrainian fronts estimating 2.3 million people.

The liberation of Ukraine ended with ousting the Nazis from the Western Ukraine. On October 27 1944, Uzhhorod was liberated, and on October 28 the Nazis left all the territory of Ukraine.
