The International Day for Protection of Children is observed yearly on June 1 since 1950. It was established in November 1949 in Paris by the Women’s International Democratic Federation.
The Day for Protection of Children appeared in the Ukrainian official calendar in 1998. Leonid Kuchma, the second President of Ukraine signed a decree #568/98 of the Day of Protection of Children to support the initiative of the Ministry of Ukraine for family, youth and sports, the Ukrainian Committee of Children’s Protection, National Foundation of Social Care of Mothers and Children ‘Ukraine for Children’ and other noncommercial organizations on May 30, 1998.
Many entertaining events will take place in Kyiv this day.
The Children’s Railway in the Syretsk Park in Kyiv will work for free. The children will follow the famous route that is open for more than 60 years ago.
The series of interesting and amusing events will take place on Sofiiska Square. The parents with children will have an opportunity to prepare various sweets. Also, they will be able to take part in the fascinating quests and workshops. The festival will last from June 1 until June 4.
The Kyiv Planetarium will open the exhibition Zoo under the microscope. The children will see different minerals and crystals under the microscope.
The Family Festival Children+Summer will take place at the Kyiv Palace of Children and Youth. The contest of the pavement drawing, the sports relay race and other events are in the program.
The National Library of Ukraine for Children will theatricalize festival on the outdoor performance stage near the Library’s building. They will lead the children through the milestones from the cave times till our present time.
