On December 6, fighters of the Ukrainian army celebrate the Armed Forces Day. Considering the role of the army in the current daily life of the Ukrainian society, one can observe that this holiday is also popular among volunteers who help the army and some common Ukrainians.
Leaders of the state and common citizens pay tribute to the Armed Forces, expressing their gratitude for fortitude and valor on the frontline, as the army opposes the Russian aggression in Donbas – and honoring the memory of the fallen warriors.
'I am proud of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which in this tough time showed a lot of courage, professionalism, and skills, performing as one united force to duly repel the aggressor that crossed our borders and attacked us from behind. We've got a lot to be proud of! We created the army that is capable to protect its country. I am grateful for every fighter, for their selflessness and professionalism, huge work and self-sacrifice,' Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said in his greeting on this occasion.
The holiday was established by the 1993 parliamentary decree; December 6 is actually the day when the Parliament voted and approved the law ‘On the Armed Forces of Ukraine.’
