Ukraine's national football team hosted Switzerland in the Round 1 game of UEFA Nations League. The match was played in Lviv on late Thursday, September 3.
The guests were more active throughout the entire game. Ukrainians frequently countered the rival's attacks. In the first half, they had some decent opportunity to score first; Ruslan Malynovsky almost put the ball in the net, if it was not for the crossbar. Andriy Yarmolenko eventually opened the score in the first half, but the Swiss squad managed to even the odds even before the halftime, thanks to the efforts of Haris Seferovic.
In the second half, the Yellow Blues played in the more defensive manner again, but unlike the guests, they managed to score once more. Oleksandr Zinchenko lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper's back, shooting from the penalty area line.
Previously, the national teams of Ukraine and Switzerland crossed paths twice. In 2006, Ukraine got the victory in the legendary match of the 1/8 finals of the World Cup (in the penalty shootout). In 2010, the teams had a draw in a friendly match - 2:2.
Ukraine's team will play their next game against Spain on September 6.
