Almost 70 countries, including Ukraine, will not be having enough vaccines from Covid-19 because of the serious demand worldwide. People's Vaccine Alliance, the group of human right watchers said so in their joint statement, as quoted by Voice of America.
The NGOs claim that in these countries, only one of ten people will be able to get the vaccine. The watchers state the rich countries have procured huge stocks of the vaccine - in some cases, even those vaccines that are still developed. Thus, citizens in poorer countries have fewer options to lay their hands on the vaccine - in the near future, anyway.
In theory, rich countries can vaccinate their citizens three times.
Ukraine ended up among those harshly Covid-affected countries where the governments failed to make direct deals for purchasing vaccines with their leading developing companies. So, Ukraine relies on COVAX program led by the WHO.
Earlier, we reported that People's Vaccine Alliance urged pharmaceutical companies to open the access to their technologies and intellectual property so that the vaccines could see mass production and reached everyone in need.
