UKE, the documentary about prominent hockey players of Ukrainian origin is now available online. According to Ukraine's State Film Agency, the film can be viewed at OLL.TV service's website for 59 hryvnias (USD 2.1, - 112 International).
The documentary became the highest grossing film in the entire history of Ukrainian cinema theatre distribution.
It is the story of great hockeyists who performed in the NHL, the world's top hockey league. The shooting took three years in the U.S., Canada, Belarus and Ukraine.
"There are lots of surnames of Ukrainian players on the rings of the Stanley Cup, the main trophy of the NHL. These were our compatriots who witnessed the birth of the hockey tournament yet before it began and developed. Their contribution in the history of hockey clubs that they stood for inspired millions of people for further feats in the U.S. and Canada. And every one of them managed to save a piece of Ukraine - so far yet so close to their hearts", says Volodymyr Mula, the film director.
Among the names of NHL legends of Ukrainian origin are such great players as Johnny Bucyk, Eddie Shack, Ruslan Fedotenko and Wayne Gretzky (the latter appeared to have Ukrainian roots, too).
