The vaccine against coronavirus developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University was approved for use in the UK as BBC reported.

“The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has been approved for use in the UK,” the message said.

It is noted that the UK ordered 100 million doses of vaccine. It is enough to inoculate 50 million people.

According to Health Secretary Matt Hancock, the vaccination of the population will be also held with the use of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

As we reported, the EMA (European Medicines Authority) will not be able to approve the vaccine against Covid-19 developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University in January.

Earlier, Prime Minister of the UK Boris Johnson stated that a new coronavirus strain was identified in the UK.

The World Health Organization urged Europeans to strengthen approaches to control and prevent the spread of the virus due to the appearance of a new strain of coronavirus in some European countries.

The new strain was observed in a number of countries, including Germany, France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia and Canada.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the world has overcome not all problems tied with the coronavirus pandemic. The future challenges are new strains of coronavirus.
