The staff correspondents of the Nastoyashcheye Vremya TV channel - Irina Romaliyskaya, Yuri Baranyuk and Ivan Hrebenyuk were detained at the Minsk hotel in the capital of Belarus, as Current Time reports.
"According to our information, they are being taken to the Moskovskiy police department of Minsk. The reason for their detention at this moment is unknown," the message says.
Romaliyskaya and Grebenyuk are citizens of Ukraine; Baranyuk is the citizen of Russia.
It is noted that the telephones of the three detainees and of Nastoyaschye Vremya's own correspondent in Belarus, Roman Vasyukovich, are currently blocked.
As we reported before, Germany, France and Poland made a joint statement on the eve of the presidential election in Belarus. European countries expect the Belarusian authorities to hold fair elections.
"We, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of France, Germany, and Poland, observe the ongoing developments in Belarus with great concern. On the eve of the presidential elections, we firmly stand by the right of the Belarusian people to exercise their fundamental freedoms, including electoral rights, and support the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus,” the message reads.
