The Supreme Court of Hamburg sentenced two entrepreneurs from Bayern to imprisonment for the supply of machine tools to the Russian defense company in breach of the sanctions against Russia introduced due to the armed conflict in Ukraine and annexation of Crimea. RTL reported that on Friday.
The Directorate of State Security stated that the main defendant is the entrepreneur from Augsburg; he is guilty of the commercial violation of the embargo between the EU and Russia.
A 41-year-old man was sentenced to three years and nine months in jail. Moreover, almost 8 million euros will be seized; that's the payment for 15 machines by the Russian clients.
The second defendant is from Munich; a 40-year-old sales representative of the German company in Russia got himself a suspended sentence of two years - for complicity and incitement. He was also recognized guilty of money laundering when he received payment of fees. 184,000 euros will be seized. Besides, the man has to pay 150,000 euros as the bailment within the conditional term.
The sentence has no legal force and can be appealed.
As we reported, Leaders of the EU member countries have reached a consensus to extend the economic sanctions against Russia because of the Kremlin's part in the ongoing hostilities in eastern Ukraine.
The sanctions foresee restricted access to markets of EU assets, the ban on exports and imports of weapons, the ban of export of dual-use products, as well as restricted assess to strategically important technologies and services that can be used during production and extraction of oil.
