"Twitter has made the difficult decision to wind down the Periscope app. The Periscope iOS and Android apps will no longer be in service as of March 31, 2021," the statement informs.
Periscope website will remain available as a read-only archive of public broadcasts. On December 15, people will no longer be able to create new accounts or purchase coins to tip their favorite broadcaster.
Meanwhile, most of the core capabilities of Periscope are already integrated into Twitter, which the company first introduced in the fall of 2016. Users can broadcast on Twitter using the Twitter Live feature within compose by selecting the in-app camera icon. In addition, brands, publishers and creators can broadcast live video on Twitter by using Media Studio.
As we reported earlier, the Twitter administration has blocked 32,242 personal pages of Chinese, Turkish and Russian social network users due to suspicion of political propaganda.
According to Twitter, 23,750 of these accounts were related to users from China, 7,340 - Turkey, and 1,152 - Russia.
The administration of the social network claims that the accounts were used to distribute materials that were allegedly beneficial to the authorities of these countries.
