Twitter has a special sign for marking the accounts of the high-ranking officials, state bodies and accounts of the state or government-linked mass media, their editors-in-chief and key representatives. The changes concerned the U.S., the UK, China, Russia and France as Twitter reported.

The company noted that this measure is necessary to allow users to make informed decisions. Later, the list of the states will be extended.

Meanwhile, Twitter stated that personal accounts of the leaders of the countries and governments will not be marked as their owners are widely known.

As we reported, Facebook deleted the post of U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he stated that the majority of children have the immunity to Covid-19 and youth is almost invulnerable to the virus. The U.S. President posted the same information on Twitter and his account was partially blocked due to the violation of the rules of social media.

On May 27, U.S. President Donald Trump accused social media platforms of censorship against the Republican Party. Trump is going to introduce control over the social networks down to their blocking.

On May 26, a few posts of the American president on Twitter concerning possible falsifications during elections in California on mail were marked by the social network as those including misleading information.
