U.S. President Donald Trump threatens to freeze U.S. contributions in the budget of the World Health Organization if it does not start the process of the reforming during 30 days as Trump reported on Twitter.
The White House filed a letter to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in which Trump accused the WHO in the delay of the publication of information about coronavirus to suit the Chinese authorities and lack of seriousness about new virus and delaying of the declaration of the pandemic.
According to the U.S. president, the WHO functionaries did not estimate the risks tied with the Covid-19 appropriately and it led to the significant damage for humanity and the global economy.
Trump is sure that the organization should reduce its dependence on China and reform to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
Trump said that measures assumed by the WHO during the SARS outbreak were a positive example. Then, the WHO recommended restricting the travels and declaring lockdown in the epicenter of the infection in the south of China.
“I cannot allow American taxpayer dollars to continue to finance an organization that, in its present state, is so clearly not serving America’s interests,” Trump concluded.
As we reported, the U.S. Company Moderna Inc stated about the success of the first trials of the vaccine against Covid-19 coronavirus disease.
